🌾 CropLife International launched its flagship commitment, the SustainablePesticide Management Framework (#SPMF) program in 2021. SPMF aims to accelerate the implementation of the International Code of Conduct on Pesticide by integrating regulatory and stewardship best practices through capacity-building, technical cooperation, information sharing and supply chain integration. CropLife is committed to funding 9 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America over a 5-year period. #Vietnam is one of the selected countries in Asia and the program is already underway. Recognizing the Vietnamese government’s vision to become a global leader in agriculture by 2050, SPMF is our commitment to support this vision. ➡ For more details on the progress in Vietnam and the other implementing countries of SPMF, read 2023 Annual Report here: https://lnkd.in/gYc8NU2q#sustainablepesticidemanagementframework #sustainableagriculture#farming #agriculture #aginnovation #plantscience #agristewardshipCropLife Asia Delisa Jiang Vinh Dao

#DidYouKnow one-third of global crop production lost to pests, diseases and weeds? Without the use of crop protection products like pesticides, these losses would double. To ensure responsible use, our industry collaborates with local governments and farmer associations to offer training courses, workshops and demonstrations on the safe handling of pesticides.Read on for a farmer’s perspective on how the responsible use of pesticides is essential to his farming practice along with practices such as no-till farming and crop rotation: https://lnkd.in/gnfAunEy#sustainableagriculture #plantscience #aginnovation #agriculture #farming #foodsecurity

The International Day of Zero Waste is observed on March 30.➡ According to UN Environment Programme Food Waste Index 2024, the world wasted 1.05 billion tonnes of food in 2022. At the same time, 783 million people are facing hunger and 1/3 of the global population face food insecurity.🏡 Households waste at least one billion meals a day. On average, each person wastes 79kg of food annually and this is the equivalent of 1.3 meals every day for everyone that is impacted by hunger.🌾 According to FAO, around 13% of food is lost in the supply chain from post-harvest loss up to and excluding retail. Other causes of food loss can occur on the field. Pest and disease affects up to 50% of crops in the developing world while drought contributes to crop losses and damage. Without crop protection, global crop losses would double each year. Plant science can help reduce pre-harvest losses by protecting crops against diseases and pests.Reducing food loss and waste can play a key role in the transformation of agrifood systems by increasing food availability, enhancing food security resiliency, and contribute to healthy diets. Food loss and waste generates 8-10 percent of global greenhouse emissions. Reducing food loss and waste can serve as a key climate strategy as it helps countries and businesses raise their climate ambition while conserving and protecting the natural resources upon which the future of food depends on.#ZeroWasteDay #plantscience #sustainableagriculture #agriculture #farming #aginnovation

🔦 Spotlight on #WomenInAg 👩🌾 👩🔬To close off this series, we speak to Dominique Bray, Communications Manager at Animal and Plant Health NZ.➡ Q1. What do you enjoy the most about your work in CropLife? In #NewZealand, we are privileged to have an abundant supply of healthy and nutritious food, largely due to the exceptional work of our #farmers & growers.I enjoy learning about the work our members do in #science and #innovation so that our farmers can grow efficiently and sustainably. This ensures that most of the population has nutritious food to eat, and that we uphold our reputation as the food basket of the world - providing high-end products to niche markets around the globe.➡Q2. How do you think your work contributes to women’s empowerment in agriculture and science? In the decade that I’ve worked in the industry, I’ve noticed a dynamic shift in the number of women joining our industry - from participating in our events, taking on leadership roles, and in helping shape the future of #agriculture. This shift is because our industry recognizes the value of their contributions, both in their work and to society in general. We support our members by acting as a conduit for sharing opportunities available to women in furthering their educational development, taking leadership positions, and winning our scholarships. We invite women, who are often disruptors in their thinking, to speak at our events and educate us and, in doing so, demonstrating the possibilities open to us as an agricultural nation.Every year we support university students studying agriculture and veterinary science through our scholarship programme. A large proportion of the recipients are women. Not because they are women, but because they demonstrate such a strong commitment to our industry through their ideas, their academic accomplishments, and in their work, which is often voluntary and aims to improve themselves and the communities in which they live. Many also demonstrate the art of life-balance, with many being successful sportswomen, including our 2023 scholarship recipients, who were both women, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and gymnastics.➡Q3. Why is closing the gender gap important for the agricultural sector and with crop production in particular?Women have always been involved in agriculture, but their voices weren’t always heard, and they were largely absent from leadership positions, which meant the industry was missing out on their input. We would be doing a disservice to agriculture if we didn’t represent the different views and strengths of all those who participate in growing our food.By being inclusive, we generate more ideas and solutions, weigh up different tactics, and strengthen our position for the future. Gender should not set a precedent for the career choices we afford ourselves. Let gender not be the deciding factor for a career, but the contribution a person can make. This allows for a stronger society and workforce.
