NORMAN — With the Southeastern Conference's announcement of the 2024 league football schedule Wednesday evening, Oklahoma's 12-game 2024 regular season football schedule is complete.
The Sooners will play seven games at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium next fall — four non-conference contests and three against SEC opponents — as well as four true road games and the annual Red River Rivalry against Texas at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas.
OU's non-conference games will be Aug. 31 vs. Temple, Sept. 7 vs. Houston, Sept. 14 vs. Tulane and Nov. 2 vs. Maine, all at home.
Oklahoma's inaugural SEC game will be Sept. 21 in Norman against Tennessee. The Volunteers are coached by former OU quarterback and co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel, who led the Sooners to a 13-0 season and national title as a senior in 2000.
OU's first SEC road contest will be Sept. 28 at Auburn, then the Sooners will have the first of two bye weeks before meeting Texas on Oct. 12 at the State Fair of Texas. OU, which will be the designated home team in next season's matchup, has won 11 of its last 15 meetings against the Longhorns. The two schools will officially join the SEC on July 1, 2024.
Head coach Brent Venables' team returns home for an Oct. 19 tilt against South Carolina, which is coached by former OU assistant Shane Beamer. The programs have never met. OU wraps up its October slate the following Saturday at Ole Miss.
The Sooners play their fourth and final non-conference game Nov. 2 against Maine in what will be the first meeting between the programs, before traveling to take on former Big Eight and Big 12 foe Missouri on Nov. 9. OU has won 20 of its last 22 meetings against the Tigers.
OU's second bye week is followed by marquee games to end the regular season against Alabama at home Nov. 23 and LSU on the road Nov. 30.
The Sooners, who own a 127-93-11 (.574) combined record against its eight 2024 SEC foes, have never played at Auburn, at Ole Miss or at LSU.
SEC teams in 2024 will play eight conference games plus one required opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 or major independent during the 2024 season when the SEC becomes a 16-team conference. Each of the 14 current SEC members will play either Oklahoma or Texas — home or away — during the 2024 season.
It was also previously announced the SEC will eliminate divisional standings beginning in 2024. The SEC Championship Game will feature the two top teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season.
