Currently listening to Sarah Cooke describe the incredible outcomes of the Kirklees Better Outcomes Partnership. From putting people into boxes and gathering the data but missing the point, to applying Mayday Trust person-led and strengths-based approaches where every intervention starts with listening to the individual. This builds on five key changes:- new governance approach including voices of participants- culture change based on all 90 workers completing the Mayday training- new processes like assessments- systems change and innovation: removing barriers, joining up services- shared accountability and collective learning culture"We stopped looking at what people can't do and started looking with them for strengths and potential. We replaced a risk assessment with a wellbeing form; and the assessment form with the fundamental question, What do you want to do and how can we get you there?"Where communities mistrusted services, we talked with community organisations and recruited from those communities to lead the changes needed. Our coproduction panel has oversight and influences us from recruitment, to which contracts we pursue. When partner organisations fall behind, we coach and support them to reflect and change their practice, drawing on outcomes data and learning, rather than instruct or manage.The power of this approach shows that accommodation, employment and wellbeing outcomes are 70% higher than comparable approaches.
